D.O.C Rioja, Sub-zone Rioja Alavesa.

Vine planted in 1967 (51 years old).

Plantation density: 3.000 Vines/Hectare. Goblet pruning

Production: 4.320 Kg. /Hectare

Hand harvested in 15 Kg boxes.

The grapes come from our ”Portillo” plot, at an average altitude of 630m above sea level. Mainly calcareous/clay, except the westernmost part of the plot which is predominantly stony. The subsoil is made up of various layers of white rock. The plot is uneven and south facing, sheltered by small hillocks that surround it.

Winemaking

Vineyard grape selection, only the best grapes are taken to the winery. Perfect destemming process to protect the berry as in a hand-made process.

Cold pre-fermentative maceration and alcoholic fermentation in a wooden vat for 19 days at a maximum temperature of 25°C. The cap is breaking up lightly and the stepping process is made just at mid-fermentation.

Malolactic fermentation in new French oak casks (two of 500 litres capacity, and 4 of 225 litres). 14 months cask ageing. This wine does not undergo any stabilisation or filtering process.

Tasting Note

Intense cherry colour with purple highlights, nice concentration.

Memories of ripened red and black fruit (cherries, red and black plums), a soft floral touch with some wild wink. Deep balsamic, sweet and spicy background. Nice and honest expression of the Tempranillo grape.

Tasty and fruity mouth, freshness sensation and longitudinal trace of acidity. With volume, structure and greedy and polished tannins that increase the feeling of fleshiness. It finishes with a mineral key of terroir, good for a long life.
