Product Information

Magadi, a wine that transports you to the past

This Viura monovarietal white wine is produced by the Betolaza winery, located in La Rioja Alta. It is a broth that seeks to transport us to those times when white crianza wines were better known in the Rioa Alta area, wines that today are almost forgotten. The Betolaza family describes very well the memories and sensations that this white awakens when it refers to it as “the wine that our grandparents made”.

Winemaking process of Betolaza Magadi

As we say, it is a wine made 100% by the white grape variety Viura (or Macabeo), grown on the estate of El Cantillo (Briones), where we find vines from 1961. It is a late harvest wine, after which the process of destemming and maceration of the grapes is carried out for about 18 hours.

The alcoholic fermentation is carried out for 30 days in stainless steel tanks, after which the broth is put to rest for 7 months in American oak barrels of 225 liters. Magadí also has a bottle aging of 6 months, which gives it unique touches in white wines with Qualified Rioja Designation of Origin. All this results in a crianza white wine with a 12.6% alcohol/vol, worthy of the most exquisite palates.

Discover the nuances of Magadi white

What first draws attention to this wine is its lemon yellow color, which shows some other greenish reflection at different angles. The brightness of Magadi and its elegant drops are one of the hallmarks of the broth.

On the nose, it surprises us with aromas of tropical fruits and citrus that are interspersed with smells of flowers and mountains. The barrel aging also gives it toasted and coconut aromas. All this converges on the palate, where the freshness of the Viura grapes and the perfect structure of this broth are noticeable. Magadí leaves an unctuous, long and persistent finish to the mouth, where the toasted nuances of the barrel can be noticed.
