What is a crianza wine?

A crianza wine is characterized by being a type of wine that went through a specific aging process, for a certain period of time. The maturation process usually occurs in two different stages or phases.

The first phase is characterized by being the moment in which the wine is left to rest in oak barrels of different origins, so that in this way it absorbs all the elements of the wood, unlike the type of young red wine.

In the second phase, the wine is transferred to the bottle where it will be kept and where all the elements such as color, texture, flavor and aroma grow and give the wine the personality that characterizes it.

This process is important as it helps to balance and smooth all the characteristics of the wine. It is one of the most important moments, since it is what allows the obtained wine to be of great quality.

What is better a crianza or reserva wine?

It is important to note that everything will depend on the taste of the  consumer. But in general, the reserva red wine has a longer ageing time, which makes it have greater prestige than one of crianza.

Reserva wines must spend at least 36 months in the process of aging, of which about 12 months must be in wooden barrels. These wines always go to market when they are 4 years old.

However, this does not mean that a young wine is not good. Young wines are made to be consumed that same year and stand out for having a more fruity flavor with less body.

There are denominations of Rioja crianza wines that are very good and of great quality. Like there are young, reserve or grand reserve wines. It all comes down to the taste of the consumer when drinking wine.

What is a Tempranillo red wine?

A Tempranillo wine does not necessarily mean that it is a young wine, it receives that name because of the type of grape used for its elaboration. It is usually one of the most common wines on the table of all Spaniards, standing out for having its very own personality.

It should be noted that sometimes we can find reserve tempranillo wines.

How long does red wine last?

We always have doubts about how long the wines last. It really is a living product that continues to evolve. Its duration will depend on the type of wine that is and various other factors.

But considering this, it can be said that approximately and starting from the year of elaboration; the young wines no more than one year, the crianza wines from 4 to 5 years, the reserva between 8 and 10 years and the gran reserva, 15 years or more.

It will always be essential to choose quality wines to be sure of their duration. Therefore, if you are looking for the best, then we can point out as recommended crianza wines the following:

  • Paco García Crianza of 15 liters
