Tempranillo – over 97% with a few vines of Mazuelo & Malvasia de Rioja.
While it was sad to see how the old vines were uprooted, given the unproductive nature of this area of Villamediana de Iregua, the Etxebarria family opted for this vineyard Los Tollos planted in 1982. It is characterized by its low yield, a soil poor in organic matter and abundant boulder that provides good drainage. The location on a loft provides perfect exposure and good ventilation, which is a guarantee of health and maturation. The surface horizon of the soil is about 60 cm thick and the texture is sandy loam. Other vineyards our families also own other vineyards in the municipal terms of Villamediana, Uruñuela, Cenicero and Sotés.
11 months with a frequent batonnage of twice a week and switching the wine in barrique and the wine in tank in the middle of this period.
Hand picked in cases of 8 kg of capacity. Manual destemmed and hand sorted. Alcoholic fermentation with the whole grain. Malolactic fermentation 50% in tank and 50% in a new French oak barrique.
Deep and brilliant red cherry color. More ripe black fruit and less spice; concentration in nose with a pleasant creamy oak in the background. The mouth is a long lasting balance of length, freshness and intensity. A wine to drink now or enjoy in the next 5 years from the year of the vintage.
