From the varieties of yesterday spring the wines of today. Maturana Blanca is first referenced in Rioja in 1622. Its long trajectory is a path of comings and goings, until it was virtually extinct a few years ago. In its efforts to recuperate local native varieties Viña Ijalba began its ecological cultivation to the point where they were able to present this monovarietal wine. It is a very subtle wine, surprising both for its elegance and its persistence in the mouth.
Winemaking & Ageing
Maceration and cold pressing for 4 hours, racking in cement lined for 36 hours. Fermented at a controlled temperature. Finished with an evolution of three months on the lees with a weekly stirring.
Analysis
13 % alcohol; 78 mg/l total sulfur.
Tasting Notes
Brilliant, golden-yellow with greenish hues.
Tempting aromas of flint, roasted peaches and ripe tropical fruit in the nose.
The mouth is full of flavour, very smooth. Elegant freshness and a formidable length.
Pairing
White meat, al dente vegetables, fresh goat’s cheese, seafood and bluefish.
Ideal to drink young. However, this wine shows an interesting evolution in the bottle up to 3 years.
