Arizcuren Bodega y Viñedos SL is a project that Javier Arizcuren Casado started in 2009, when he started making some wine in his family home in Quel (town of La Rioja Baja). Over the years, that small project grew. In 2011 Javier becomes in charge of the family's winery in Quel, and already in 2015 sees the light of the winery that today is known as Arizcuren.
In the Arizcuren winery the work is done artisanally during all the processes of winemaking, from the collection of the grapes on the slopes of the Sierra de Yerga, to the bottling of the wines. In addition, all these processes are carried out in the winery itself: destemming, fermentation, pressing of the grapes, aging in barrels (American or French oak) or in jars (amphorae), and its subsequent bottling, labeling and encapsulation.
Arizcuren was born with the intention of preserving the wine tradition of the area of La Rioja Baja, specifically the Sierra de Yerga, where its vineyards are located, with an area of 16 hectares. The vine plots of the Arizcuren Winery have between 30 and 120 years of history, and enjoy an optimal location that transforms into the high quality of its grapes. It is also committed to organic cultivation, using only fertilizers of organic origin.
The grape varieties with which we work in Bodega Arizcuren are mainly Grenache and Mazuelo, which have had an important tradition in Rioja. With these grapes are made quality red wines of Arizcuren, which have the Certified Designation of Rioja Origin.
The facilities of the Arizcuren winery are located in the center of Logroño capital of La Rioja province, which makes it very easy to visit Arizcuren ‘urban winery’, this is how the owner Javier calls it. In addition to a tour of its different spaces and rooms, you can enjoy a tasting organized by the person who best knows Arizcuren wines, its creator Javier. To make a reservation you can contact the winery through its website.
