Hacienda López de Haro is a winery located in the heart of Sonsierra Rioja, a privileged place for the cultivation of the Tempranillo variety due to the special characteristics of its soils. The winery was born from the intention of finding the best vineyards to grow that grape in La Rioja, by the hand of the wine company Vintae.
This search led the Vintae team to San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a village in La Rioja Alta at the foot of the Sierras Del Toloño and Cantabria. The quality of its vineyards and the properties of the grapes that grew in this area, made the decision to found the Bodega Hacienda López de Haro there.
This location is characterized by its climate with mild temperatures throughout the year and winds slowed by the surrounding mountains. In addition, it is an area that has a variety of soils divided between alluvial, clay-calcareous and clay-ferrous.
These conditions make it an ideal place for the cultivation of the vine, especially of the Tempranillo variety. The vineyards in which this type of grape grows are characterized by low productivity, which makes it possible to better control its quality.
In addition to Tempranillo, López de Haro also works with other native varieties of La Rioja, such as Garnacha, Viura, Mazuelo and Graciano.
In Hacienda López de Haro, a work mechanism based on tradition is followed, trying to intervene as little as possible in the vineyard so that the grapes do not suffer and retain their properties. Although this artisanal work is complemented by the latest oenological advances.
Thanks to this union between tradition and innovation, it is possible to elaborate a wide range of wines that is divided into three collections.
López de Haro is the homonymous collection of the winery that has eight wines, of which six are red of different crianzas and varieties; a white and a rosé made with the selection of the best vineyards of La Rioja Alta.
The wines of more character and that best represent the Rioja landscape are grouped in the Classica collection, composed of two Gran Reserva wines, one of them red and the other white.
Finally, El Pacto is the wine of Hacienda López de Haro that has the ecological seals and suitable for vegan people, since it comes from vineyards cared for in a traditional and natural way.
