The Maetierra Winery (located in Calahorra, in the area of La Rioja Oriental) has specialized since 2003 in the production of quality white wines, certified by the Protected Geographical Indication Valles De Sadacia.
Located in the Rioja town of Calahorra, the Maetierra winery is the only winery in La Rioja that specializes in the production of white wines. It is a project belonging to the Wine Company Vintae, known for producing quality wines from eight different Spanish Designations of Origin.
Since 1999, the Moscatel de Grano Menudo Grape (Small Grain Muscut), a native variety of La Rioja that is characterized by the small size of its fruits and for obtaining wines that stand out for their powerful aromas, has been recovered.
This variety is not integrated within the Rioja Denomination of Origin, so the Maetierra winery worked to create a geographical indication that would attest to its quality and origin. Thus, the Protected Geographical Indication Valles De Sadacia, which groups various areas of Western Rioja, was approved in 2003.
Moscatel de grano menudo is the quintessential variety used in the production of Maetierra wines, and has become its hallmark.
But this is not the only grape grown in the vineyards of the winery. There are also plots of chardonnay, viura, Malvasia, verdejo, riesling, Gewürztraminer, syrah, albariño or viognier, which contribute to the creation of the white wines of Maetierra.
Among the wines of the Maetierra winery stands out the Libalis collection, composed of three wines, all of them very marked by the fruity aromas provided by the Moscatel de grano menudo. Libalis White is the most tropical white wine, Libalis Frizz brings a bubbly touch, and Libalis Rosé is distinguished by its intense pink color.
In addition to Libalis, the winery produces other wines (all of them within the I. G. P. Valles De Sadacia) in which the protagonist is also the Moscatel de Grano Menudo. Melante is the sweet white wine of Maetierra made 100% with this special variety, which stands out for its balance between sweetness and acidity.
On the other hand is the Spanish White Guerrilla collection, composed of 8 monovarietal wines made with the most internationally recognized grapes, including Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
