All about Bodegas Carchelo

Bodegas Carchelo has an important family tradition dedicated to the production of wine, especially red wines from the area of Jumilla (Murcia). It is one of the pioneering families in the creation of these reds that, years later, would be recognized by the guide of the oenological critic Robert Parker.

Precursors of the red wines of Jumilla

Following that tradition, in 1990 Bodegas Carchelo was founded with the intention of returning to the origins of those Jumilla red wines that stood out for their roundness, their intensity of color and their high alcohol content.

The family winery is located in the city of Jumilla, an area where the vineyards of Bodegas Carchelo are also located. These terrains are characterized by their limestone soils with a loamy-sandy texture and by their Mediterranean climate, with very pronounced thermal variations between the seasons and with little rainfall throughout the year.

The plots of Bodegas Carchelo are spread over different altitudes of the term of Jumilla, which allows cultivating varieties of grapes with differentiating nuances that will later be translated into the wines of the House.

These conditions make Jumilla an ideal area for the cultivation of native grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Monastrell, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The harvest is carried out with special care in respect for the raw material, thus managing to maintain the properties that the terroir provides. This philosophy of work is also transferred to the premises of the winery, where the latest technologies are used to carry out each winemaking process.

Bodegas Carchelo's wine collection

Bodegas Carchelo specializes in the production of red wines. Based on this premise, it currently has a complete collection of eight red wines that faithfully represent the personality of Jumilla's terroir. In addition to this, the winery also produces a monovarietal Monastrell rosé wine.

One of the most special products of Bodegas Carchelo is its submarine wine Vina Maris (underwater wine). Vina Maris has been aged for 12 months under the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, during which time it acquires unique properties that differentiate it from the rest of the brand's wines. It stands out for the greater intensity of its colors and for the elegance that presents both in the nose and in the mouth.
