With more than 150 years of family tradition and experience behind them, Bodegas Urbina (Cuzcurrita del Río Tirón, La Rioja) produce fine quality wines with Rioja Designation of Origin.
The history of Bodegas Urbina dates back to 1870, when Salvador Urbina began to produce his own wines from vineyards grown in the privileged area of La Rioja Alta. These first wines were characterized by their elaboration in wooden tanks, a technique that at the time was not used.
Already in the year 1986, after two generations, the wine was elaborated in the current facilities of the winery, using stainless steel tanks for this. Currently, the winery is under the management of the fourth generation, consisting not only of winegrowers, but also researchers, tasters and expert winemakers.
Those same vineyards that were used in the past are those that today are still used for the production of red, white and rosé wines of Bodegas Urbina. The special care that has always been put in the vineyard has allowed it to be preserved in an optimal state, giving quality grapes that contribute to the wine the properties of the land. This care is based on sustainable viticulture, using only organic fertilizers and with minimal use of fungicides.
Almost all wines produced by Bodegas Urbina are monovarietal (made only with one type of grape), although in the case of the red wine Gran Reserva 1994, the mixture of the three red varieties of the own vineyards is used.
In the case of wines subjected to aging in the winery, this is done both in oak barrels and in the bottle itself. During this phase the wines acquire the properties and aromas of the woods.
In addition to the selection of fine wines Urbina, the family winery also carries out the production of a Brut Sparkling Wine, made from the Viura variety grown in its Cuzcurrita vineyards.
The quality of Urbina wines crosses borders, 80% of its annual production is destined for export to countries around the world, where they have won the recognition of experts and consumers.
