With more than 40 years of history behind it, the family business El Mozo Wines produces Rioja wines in an ecological, organic and respectful way for the vineyards. The winery has 9 hectares of land located in the privileged location of Lanciego (Rioja Alavesa).
Mozo Wines was born more than 40 years ago in the town of Lanciego, located in Rioja Alavesa. Also known as Bodegas Compañón Arrieta, it is a family project based on the wine tradition and history of the area. The wine is made in a sustainable and respectful way with the 9 hectares of own vineyards that El Mozo Wines has.
Its vineyards are more than 30 years old (some of them with more than 70 years of tradition), and are divided into 18 pitches. They grow grapes with unique properties thanks to the location of their different plots, which translates into a terroir that provides quality to the wines.
The vineyards of El Mozo Wines are worked in an ecological way, without using substances or chemical fertilizers, only of organic origin. In addition, only traditional methods are used that do not harm the terroir, the vine or the grape. Once the fruits are harvested, the wines are made in a completely traditional way, without using additives or yeasts. All this way of working makes the wines of El Mozo Wines obtain the label of organic wines and are supervised by the Council of Agriculture and Organic Food of the Basque Country.
Thanks to the 18 plots that the winery has and the characteristics and properties of the land, different grape varieties are grown with which quality wines are made. The main variety is Tempranillo, a grape that stands out in proportion to the other varieties used (Garnacha, Malvasia, Viura and Torrontés).
Mozo Wines produces quality wines called Micro Vinos, which are praised by experts and customers. Among its range we find both red wines as well as white wines and rosé wines, all of them with qualified Designation of Origin Rioja and the ecological (organic) certificate.
El Mozo Wines is committed to the continuity of the wine tradition of Lanciego, a legacy that is intended to continue passing from parents to children.
