All about Gelmer Wines

Information about Gelmer Wines:

Sustainability and the care of the vineyards is the work philosophy that is followed by Gelmer Wines, where the passion for viticulture has accompanied them for more than a century. The Gelmer Wines Group is composed of the Bodega Irekua (located in La Rioja Alta) and the ecological wines of Val d'Eco (Castilla La Mancha).

Gelmer Wines has its origin in Switzerland, the country of origin of its founders, and the place from which its name comes, which refers to the lake of Gelmer or Gelmersee.

Bodega Irekua's wines

The Family Winery Irekua was born in 1890, when it began to produce wine in small quantities and for local consumption. Over the years, the volume of production was increasing, since, among other things, there were more own vineyards. All this production was intended for sale to larger wineries. With the entry of the fourth generation in the management of the winery, it begins to elaborate and commercialize its own wine, Irekua.

The vineyards of the family are located in areas and villages of La Rioja Alta, where the varieties that are most cultivated are Tempranillo and Graciano, also Mazuelo, although in smaller quantities.

Bodegas Irekua today has a selection of five red wines, all of them with Rioja Designation of Origin Qualified.

Val d'Eco's ecological wines

For its part, the Val d'Eco winery is located in Castilla La Mancha, and has been operating since 1954. What characterizes this winery are its 100% organic and vegan vineyards, in which we work in a sustainable and respectful way with the environment. The grape varieties that are grown are Airén and Sauvignon Blanc (white grapes), and Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (red grapes).

The wines produced by Val d'Eco are, therefore, organic and vegan wines, which also have the Protected Geographical Indication Vino de la Tierra de Castilla. Currently in the winery five different types of organic wines are made: two white wines and three red wines.

Following the working philosophy of the Gelmer Wines Group, both vineyards of Val d'Eco and those of Bodegas Irekua are worked in an ecological way, using organic fertilizers and without using chemical fertilizers of any kind.
