In the MareVinum winery, located in Ribadedeva (Asturias), they specialize in the production of underwater wines, wines of various Spanish denominations of origin that have been aged at sea, acquiring unique properties.
MareVinum is an underwater winery that is located in the Asturian Council of Ribadedeva, to the north of the community. This project of wines aged at the bottom of the Cantabrian Sea was born in 2017 from the hand of three passionate divers and the world of oenology.
The Marevinum winery is a representation of the main passions of its founders, but also of two of the most recognized symbols of Spain: wine and sea.
Today there are three wineries that collaborate with MareVinum for their wines to be aged under the waters of the Cantabrian Sea: Bodega Pico Cuadro, Bodega Terra d'Uro and Bodega Barcolobo. Thus, the underwater wines of MareVinum have three Spanish denominations of origin: Ribera del Duero, Toro and wine from Tierra de Castilla y León.
Each of the bottles that arrive at MareVinum by the collaborating wineries is prepared with special care for their marine aging. During these periods of at least six months, the bottles (located in individual cages) are subjected to sea pressure, which is why special care is taken in the pre-submersion phase, to ensure their integrity throughout the process.
This winery is located in a privileged marine environment that leaves its mark on each of the bottles submerged in the sea, thus providing the touch of personality of Marevinum wines.
The main improvements presented by wines subjected to underwater aging are with respect to their colors and flavors. The fruity touches increase its intensity, which provides a livelier tone and a much more pleasant sensation in the mouth.
At the end of the aging period, the wines have not only acquired unique properties that increase their quality, but have also improved in terms of design. Marine elements such as lapas or algae are embedded in the bottles, providing a style and design that are unique in each product.
Thanks to this special aging, the underwater wines of MareVinum gain in authenticity, but above all in quality.
