Oxer Wines is a winery located in La Rioja Alavesa that began its journey in the creation of wines in 2009. Today, it has a varied range of broths made in an organic and traditional way.
Oxer Wines launched in 2009 to the production of wines in the wine area of La Rioja Alavesa, starting with old vineyard grapes purchased from winemakers in that area. After checking the good results that this first elaboration had, the decision was made to create the current Oxer Wines winery in Laguardia.
For this purpose, several vineyards were purchased located in the privileged subzone of Rioja Alavesa, belonging to the D. O. Ca. Rioja. These lands are characterized by their sand and clay soils, as well as by their confluence of Mediterranean and Atlantic climates.
Oxer Wines follows a line of work based on organic and regenerative agriculture, that is, they care about the sustainability of their vineyards through the unique use of organic fertilizers that help conserve plants.
Thanks to all this it is possible to produce a wide variety of wines with Rioja Designation of Origin that represent properties of the terroir of the subzone of Rioja Alavesa.
There are five Oxer wines with Rioja qualified designation of origin, and all of them are made with grape varieties grown in their own vineyards of Rioja Alavesa. The main varieties used are Tempranillo, Garnacha (Grenache) tinta and blanca, Viura and Graciano.
In addition to the vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, Oxer Wines also has plots near the coast of Biscay where winery's Txakoli wines are made, belonging to the Bizkaiko Txakolina Denomination of Origin.
Within this denomination, Oxer Wines produces 5 wines that it baptizes under the common name of Marko, which symbolizes the Oxer farmhouse. These Txakoli wines are made with the varieties Izkiriota Handia, Hondarribi Zuri Zerratia and Hondarribi Zuri in different proportions, all grown in the vineyards of the Biscay Coast.
The wines that are part of the Bizkaiko Txakolina designation of origin are Marko, Marko Gure Arbasoak, Marko Late Harvest, Marko Skin and Marko Loretxoa.
