Although the family has a long winemaking tradition, it was not until 1964 that they began to produce their own wines under the name of Bodegas Santalba. The winery follows a way of working in which the sum of the traditional, the latest winemaking advances and oenological training result in the production of quality Rioja wines.
The vineyards of the family are distributed in different points of the Rioja Alta area, where the main varieties of native grapes of La Rioja are grown. With regards to red grapes, Tempranillo is the most abundant, although other varieties such as Mazuelo, Garnacha (Grenache) or Graciano are also used. As far as white grapes are concerned, Viura and Malvasia are the most used to make Santalba broths.
Thanks to the various plots and grape varieties that are grown, the Santalba winery can produce a wide variety of wines that it divides into 6 different collections, taking into account both the type of grape and the terroir where it has been grown.
Santalba and Santalba Viña Hermosa are the main collections. The first of them is composed of red wines made with different percentages of varieties, white wines with different sweetness and organic and vegan wines. For its part, Santalba Viña Hermosa has red wines of various crianzas, dry and semi-sweet white wines and a 100% Tempranillo Rosé wine.
The range of wines that receives the name of Ermita San Felices recognizes the patron of the Rioja town of Haro. It has red, white and rosé wines made with 100% Tempranillo grape.
Abando has three different wines, two of them that have been fermented in barrels (one white and one rosé), and another made from the selection of the best Tempranillo and Viura grapes from the vineyards of Bodegas Santalba.
Finally, the Ogga and Nabot collections have a single wine each, both remarkable for coming from the best vineyards of the family, which provides them with an excellent quality praised by the Rioja Regulatory Council.
