In Viña Ijalba the commitment to the environment is one of the most important factors to take into account when making its wines, organic wines with Rioja Designation of Origin that stand out for their quality and authenticity.
This winery has been in operation since 1991, when it became one of the first wineries to produce organic wines in Rioja. But the Viña Ijalba project originated a few years earlier, in 1975, when its founder Dionisio Ruiz Ijalba decided to plant his first vineyard on soils that reproduced the traditional terroir of Rioja.
Since then Viña Ijalba has focused on the recovery of minority indigenous varieties but with great character that were almost disappeared, such as Maturana Blanca or Tempranillo Blanca. This makes Viña Ijalba the first winery that produces wines entirely with these varieties.
In the more than 90 hectares of own vineyards that the winery has in areas of Logroño, Iregua Valley and San Vicente De La Sonsierra, not only these minority varieties are cultivated, but also others such as Maturana Tinta, Graciano, Tempranillo or Viura.
The care of each of the vineyards is carried out following ecological and environmentally friendly methods, so no chemical or artificial fertilizer is used. All wine-making processes are also committed to the natural and traditional way of working, thus achieving that the grapes keep their properties intact.
All this makes the wines made by Viña Ijalba have a unique personality, always maintaining the quality of the wines of the Rioja denomination of Origin.
Currently this winery has a complete collection of eleven organic wines that faithfully represent the wine of Rioja.
Among the red wines are Ijalba Tempranillo Joven, Ijalba Múrice, Ijalba Cuvée, Ijalba Crianza, Ijalba Reserva, Ijalba Maturana Tinta and Ijalba Graciano. As for the white wines we find the Ijalba Genolí-Viura, Ijalba Maturana Blanca and Ijalba Tempranillo Blanco, the latter two become the first monovarietals in the world of these varieties. And, finally, the young rosé Ijalba, made 100% with Tempranillo.
